FAQ

Which IPs are reported when reporting is enabled?

When reporting is enabled, KittyPaper reports the IP addresses of requests that are likely to be scanners.

A request is considered likely to be from a scanner if it has never joined the server before and does not join within 30 minutes after the initial request. The reported IP address is the one from which the request originated. No additional player data or metadata is reported.

Does a reported IP get automatically added to the blocklist?

No, reported IPs do not get automatically added to the blocklist. Reporting is used to help improve the blocklist for everyone by providing data on likely scanners. The reported IPs are reviewed and analyzed before being considered for inclusion in the blocklist.

Does KittyPaper prevent griefing or DDoS attacks?

No, KittyPaper does not prevent griefing or DDoS attacks. While it enhances privacy by anonymizing player data and blocking unwanted requests, it does not include features specifically designed to mitigate griefing or DDoS attacks. Server administrators should implement additional security measures to protect their servers from such threats.

Please also refer to this Setup guide  for more information on configuring and securing your Minecraft server.

Sensible security measures include keeping the server software up to date, using a whitelist and regular backups.

Does KittyPaper work with BungeeCord or Velocity?

While KittyPaper is primarily designed to function as a standalone server, it can be used in conjunction with proxy servers like BungeeCord or Velocity. However, certain features related to request blocking may not function as intended when used behind a proxy.

Is this project affiliated with KittyScan ?

Yes, KittyPaper is developed by the same author as KittyScan. Both projects share a common goal of enhancing privacy and security for Minecraft server administrators and players. KittyPaper utilizes the KittyScanBlocklist for request blocking, which is maintained by the KittyScan project. KittyPaper does not make exceptions for requests originating from KittyScan.
